The historic Gristmill Restaurant has been a cornerstone of the Gruene Historic District since opening its doors in 1977, and boasts an incredible view overlooking the Guadalupe River beloved by residents and tourists alike. The proximity to the river brings about its own unique challenges, including ground movement that began impacting the deck over the years. Schumann Consulting was engaged to assist with a comprehensive foundation stabilization project. This involved the deconstruction of the existing deck and bar, followed by the installation of an advanced structural system utilizing retaining walls, soil anchors and micropiles. This approach not only ensured the stability of the foundation, reinforced the structural integrity of the deck, all while keeping the unique look of the deck paving the way for continued use and safety.
